Analysis of TV advertisement.
This advert is by thinkbox, a marketing body for commercial TV in
the United Kingdom . Thinkbox aims its advertising at company's
who want to reach a wider market. The message for this advert was created by
the advertising company to remind people of the continuing power and
effectiveness of TV. The company are utilising the popularity of Harvey as he appears in the company's second
related advert, the first being 'Dogs Home.' Dogs home received the 2010 best
advertisement award, this particular advert, Harvey and Rabbit received the bronze British Arrows
award in 2013.
'Harvey ' the dog has been used as a tool to tap
into an already growing market of cute animals doing out of the ordinary things
on the internet, this instantly attracts my attention. This is not a
generational perspective, people of all generations are viewing this type of
content on the internet. Therefore the advert which appeals to me greatly also
interests others. This appeals to me on a personal level because I have a dog
the same breed as Harvey . The company have managed to show one of the key terrier
characteristics, a strong bond and attachment to their personal possessions:
their toys.
Other people may view this differently to
me because they may not take it on such a personal level, say if they didn't
have a dog or did not find animals particularly cute. Others could argue that
the man in the advert should have just thrown the toy away without thinking
about it. Some people may find that when they know that this advertises,
advertising they may just switch off or ignore the concept.
The advert focuses on friendship, loyalty
and devotion. This is shown throughout the advert from the owner to Harvey the dog and then to rabbit. The advert
omitted the representation of lifestyles because it is unnecessary for their
selling purposes. This shows a level of attachment to memory's and such
that everybody can identify with no matter who or how old they are. Harvey , much like a child does not want to let
go off the things that he loves.
