Skills Development in Photoshop

Skills Development- Photoshop

In order to create my cover firstly, I opened up my cover image into Photoshop and used a brush tool with soft edges with a white colouring and went around my subject in the image to get rid of the whole background. At that point all I had was the subject of the cover surrounded by what looks like white mist. Then by using a dark shade of grey and changing to opaqueness to a more transparent look I went around the left of the subject and created a shadow around it, also using the paint tool brush. And to break up the image from the white I added a almost green edge to the side so that is was more composed. Then I was ready to place my masthead I had already chosen size and font previously so I was able to just use the text tool to place it there, but after this was done I added the blood splatter, resized, recoloured and placed it behind the masthead so that it was still visible but covering up my masthead text, I chose to do this because as a college magazine it would not be well known to the public and the name of the magazine would have to be plainly visible. Then to further compose the image I added a vignette effect and changed the levels of the photo to change the brightness and contrast of the image. From there I used the blemish brush and went around the subjects face to create a smoother edge. After the actual image and background was created it was time to put the text on (headings, subheading, slogans etc…)

I put my slogans for my stories on and changed the colour of the text to white were it overlapped the image so that the text was more visible. I used three main colours for the use of all my text so that there was a running theme (Black, white and red) I added the shape for the puff and buzz using the paint brush tool. Then added text within the shape.
